Manchester United prodigy Tahith Chong is closing in on a return, according to the club’s official website, as he continues his recuperation from injury at the club.

Last summer, the 22-year-old was moved out on loan to Championship side Birmingham City. However, in November, he suffered a thigh injury and returned to Old Trafford, ending his time at St Andrew’s.

Chong’s stay in Birmingham was successful, as he turned in a number of strong performances that made him stand out. Playing week in and week out would have surely aided his cause, but luck had other plans.0 GettyImages 1347850201ManUtdFC-Blog

Chong is on the mend now, having undergone surgery, and appears to be progressing well. On Monday, he was caught on camera as he continued his recuperation at Carrington.

He’ll be back in a few weeks, according to the current situation. He appears to be on the mend, though, and it’s in his best interests to make sure the 22-year-old is fully recovered before being pressed into service, even at the reserves level.

Chong appears to have made an impression on Birmingham City manager Lee Bowyer, who is willing to welcome him back to the club in the future. It remains to be seen whether this is something that can be investigated during the summer transfer season.

It’s a shame the Dutchman wasn’t able to continue his growth, especially since it would have given him some much-needed playing time. Hopefully, he will be fully recovered and ready to go when he returns.

Chong joined United from Feyenoord in the Netherlands in 2016, and in 2019 he was named Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year and Denzil Haroun Reserve Player of the Year.

It remains to be seen if it will be triggered or not.
