‘I will Like to join’ – Cody Gakpo speaks out about potential next move

The attacker has been on a tear this season and hasn't been bashful about discussing his future.

Cody Gakpo says he hasn’t heard anything about a transfer from Manchester United, but he would consider an offer if one came through.

Before Erik ten Hag chose to invest £85 million in Antony, the Dutch attacker spoke with the Reds about a possible summer move. He later termed the unsuccessful deal as “sad” but has kicked on with great performances for both club and country.

Gakpo has scored 13 goals and provided 17 assists for PSV Eindhoven this season. He also demonstrated his abilities at the World Cup, scoring in every group-stage game to help the Netherlands get to the quarterfinals.

After the summer, he has been linked with a move to Manchester United, and speculation has only grown since Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure. Ten Hag is set to look for an attacker in January, and Gakpo has impressed for the Dutch as a striker in Qatar.

His season, on the other hand, did not begin well. Gakpo described PSV’s loss to Rangers in the Champions League qualifications as “difficult,” especially after missing out on a move to England.

He told Dutch news site NRC that he began to “panic” following the setback, with potential moves to Manchester United and Leeds hanging in the balance. “I thought about Manchester United, but when that didn’t materialize, I didn’t know what to do,” he revealed. And I began to have reservations.

“Leeds United did show up. Should I visit there? Now I’m waiting for everything. I have yet to hear from Manchester United. I’ll think about it when they arrive. In these, I too seek God’s assistance.”

Gakpo claimed earlier this week that he was focused on the World Cup for the time being. He stated: “That’s not something I’m thinking about right now.

“I’m just focused on the competition, trying to keep performing well and contributing to the team, and perhaps when we win the world championship, I’ll be able to think about that.

“I’m just trying to stay focused, and the fact that the other players don’t really talk about those things helps me in this circumstance.”
