The Gunners were held to a 1-1 draw on the south coast after Stuart Armstrong cancelled out Granit Xhaka’s opener.

Mikel Arteta’s men dominated for much of the game and created numerous chances to take all three points back to London.

Jesus had two good chances but couldn’t beat Gavin Bazunu.

However, the Brazilian revealed that he could have had a penalty had he fallen a little earlier on one of his chances.

In an interview with Arsenal’s official website, Jesus told what Jones said to him just after the final whistle yesterday.

“I spoke to him just afterwards and he told me that if we went to ground earlier, maybe he could give a penalty,” he said.

“But I think I was fair, I tried to hold on and stay on my feet and I tried to finish the action, but at the end he caught me and it was impossible, so I go to ground normally.”

“But that’s not the reason why we didn’t win the game, we had a lot of chances”.

What is certain is that the Gunners created enough chances to take the three points.

Jesus will be disappointed not to have scored at least one goal after three good chances for a player of his quality.

But Mikel Arteta’s men remain top of the Premier League and have opened up a two-point gap with Manchester City.

Jesus and the Gunners will look to bounce back next Sunday when they welcome Nottingham Forest to the Emirates.
