Four Completed – Three Remaining – Man United sell defender to Al-Nassr

Manchester United has finalized the signing of defender Alex Telles to Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr.

The Red Devils signed Brazilian international Porto in October 2020, and he appeared 24 times for the team during the 2020-21 season before returning for another 26 games in 2021-22.

Telles, however, was not in Man United boss Erik Ten Hag’s plans for the 2022-23 season, thus he joined Sevilla on loan.

Last season, the left-back appeared on 38 occasions for Sevilla, including 27 in La Liga, and there were reports that he could make the transfer to Estadio Ramon on a permanent basis.

However, Sevilla turned down the chance to sign the 30-year-old on a long-term contract, with the club reportedly unwilling to pay Man United’s asking price.

Telles was not named to the Red Devils’ pre-season tour of the United States, fueling speculation that he might leave the club in the near future.

Al-Nassr has finally obtained his signature, with the Saudi Arabian outfit paying a sum in the area of €10 million (£8.7 million) to lure him to Riyadh.

“Alex Telles has completed a permanent move from Manchester United to Al-Nassr… we’d like to thank Alex for his contributions to the club over the last three years and would like to wish him all the best for the future,” read a statement on Man United’s official website.

Man United’s first-team left-backs will be Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia again next season, with Alvaro Fernandez perhaps departing on loan and Brandon Williams leaving permanently.

Telles has linked up with former Manchester United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, who moved to Al-Nassr earlier this year after leaving Old Trafford.

Last season’s Saudi Pro League runners-up, who are managed by Luis Castro, have also added Seko Fofana and Marcelo Brozovic during the summer transfer window.

Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage left Manchester United this summer for FC Utrecht and Reading, respectively, while David de Gea, Axel Tuanzebe, and Phil Jones left after their contracts expired.

Meanwhile, the 20-time English champions have brought in Mason Mount and Andre Onana from Chelsea and Inter Milan, respectively, during the current transfer window.

Ten Hag’s team is now thought to be focusing on a deal for Atalanta BC’s Rasmus Hojlund, though it remains to be seen whether they can agree on a price with the Italians.
