Bruno Fernandes praised Fred’s contribution to Manchester United’s 4-2 victory over Leeds on Sunday afternoon.

United led 2-0 at halftime, but fell apart again after the interval when their Yorkshire rivals scored twice in the space of a minute to turn the game around.

Ralf Rangnick’s side was noticeably frightened by the goals, so he brought in Fred and Anthony Elanga to help them restore their composure in the game, and both substitutes scored soon after.

Fred provided much-needed energy to United at a crucial point in the game, and Fernandes hailed him for his contribution afterward.

“Obviously, Fred is a hardworking player who does not receive a lot of media (attention) because he works hard and recovers a lot of balls,” the Portuguese told MUTV.

“In many games, he and Scotty (McTominay) are two players that are extremely essential to us. I’m ecstatic for him, as well as Anthony, who scored his goal, which he deserved.”

When asked about United’s early-second-half collapse, Fernandes conceded that his team was complacent after leading by two goals at halftime.

He continued, ” “That was most likely the issue for us. We think we’re in a wonderful situation, so we start to be a little sloppy with our passes when we’re under pressure, and they score two goals.”
