On Sunday evening, Martial came on as a second-half substitute against West Ham but failed to make an impression as United lost 1-0.

The 27-year-old had an opportunity to score only his fifth league goal of the season, but was stopped in injury time by Hammers goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski.

After spending the second half of last season on loan at Sevilla, Martial was anticipated to be sold last summer, but Ten Hag decided to keep the Frenchman at Old Trafford.

This summer, Ten Hag may have another issue with Martial, and Premier League icon Shearer feels Manchester United should consider selling.

‘Anthony Martial has had enough time at Manchester United,’ says the club. Shearer stated on Premier League Productions following West Ham’s important victory.

‘You don’t need to make any major decisions about him since, in my opinion, the decision has already been made or should have been made.

He’s been there long enough, and he’s got his fair share of chances. He isn’t good enough to get Manchester United to where they want to go.

‘If he was talented enough, he’d be starting on a regular basis and scoring goals. He’s had his chance, and it hasn’t worked out for him, in my opinion.’

‘With all due respect to Martial, if you’ve got Wout Weghorst starting in front of you, you’ve got a problem,’ former Arsenal striker Ian Wright remarked.

Manchester United have had a successful first season under Ten Hag, winning the EFL Cup earlier this year and getting into the top four.

However, the Red Devils are stumbling towards the end of the season, having suffered a shock setback to Sevilla in the Europa League and back-to-back defeats in the Premier League.

Manchester United sit fourth with four games remaining, one point ahead of Liverpool, and host Wolves next weekend at Old Trafford.

‘I think the first half was a decent performance, and the second half was below our standards,’ Ten Hag stated after United’s loss to West Ham.

‘We could have been up in the first half, we played good football but one mistake and you are following the ramifications. We have everything in our hands, but we need to recover and refresh; we need to utilise this week.’

‘Of course it’s sad, we created and we had the game in our hands,’ Ten Hag said of United failing to score for the second time in four days. We need to be more clinical in front of the goal.’
