The Cameroonian star had been a back-up striker for the German champions over the past two seasons, but his fortunes have changed with Robert Lewandowski’s exit this summer.

The 33-year-old is currently the first-choice to lead the line for Bayern and his form has been quite fascinating with eight goals and three assists from just 13 appearances.

It is now reported that United are thinking ‘very seriously’ about him and they could attempt to sign him on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the campaign.

United see Choupo-Moting as a potential replacement for Ronaldo next season.

Choupo-Moting link is agent-driven to land new Bayern deal

United are expected to bolster their frontline next year and they could wait until the summer to do so. The rebuild could coincide with Ronaldo heading for the exit door.

However, we don’t see the possibility of Choupo-Moting arriving at Old Trafford. The striker has hit a purple patch with Bayern and appears on course for his best-ever scoring season.

Despite this, manager Erik ten Hag is unlikely to sanction a move for him. At 33, he is no longer in the prime of his career and would not represent the vision of the Dutch tactician.

Ten Hag has built his reputation on grooming youngsters into world-beaters. If United were to sign a new striker, it could be an emerging star with immense potential within him.

Hence, the speculation involving Choupo-Moting can be considered as agent-driven. By speculating United’s name, the striker is probably looking for an improved payday at Bayern.
