Maguire has had a difficult week after England fans booed him after their 3-0 win against the Ivory Coast. Gareth Southgate jumped to his player’s defense, describing his reception as a “absolute farce.”

The captain of the United States is currently preparing for a game in which he will be reunited with some old pals. On Saturday, United will face Maguire’s previous club Leicester City as Ralf Rangnick’s side continues their bid for a top-four finish.

Kasper Schmeichel, a former teammate of Maguire’s at the King Power Stadium, has previously stated why United should keep him. “I don’t think it’s going to be his [Maguire’s] year, I think it’s going to be his decade,” Schmeichel told Sky Sports in 2018.

“He is going to be one of the top defenders in the world in the next 10 years or so, when he reaches his prime.” He possesses all of the qualities you might want in a defender.

“He’s a fantastic football player, extremely intelligent, he can spot a pass and pick it out, and he’s a really astute and cunning position player.” He’s a big lad, so he’s a threat on set-pieces, both for and against, and Harry can go as far as he wants for me.

“He was Player of the Year here last season, Players’ Player of the Year, so that speaks a lot about his performance.” I have no doubt that his work ethic and attitude will improve this season, and that he will establish himself as one of, if not the best, defenders in the Premier League.”
