Fabrizio Romano says Ten Hag now leading race for ‘one of the best players in Europe’; he’s keen on $52m move

Manchester United is preparing to make a £52 million deal for Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund.

United is interested in the Danish wonder after pulling out of the contest to sign Harry Kane, concluding that Tottenham’s £100 million price was too high.

While Erik ten Hag had hoped to sign an experienced center forward, Napoli’s £130 million value of Victor Osimhen has put United off signing the Nigerian.

It prompted the Dutchman to broaden his quest, and Hojlund, 20, is regarded as one of Europe’s brightest young people.

The self-confessed Manchester United fan sparked speculation earlier this week when he said he could be on the move this summer.

Ten Hag has made it clear that, despite the uncertainties surrounding the club’s ownership, he wants his transaction done before the end of the summer.

According to Italian media, United will make an opening proposal of £52 million for Hojlund after commencing talks through intermediaries in recent weeks.

While Atalanta is hoping for roughly £63 million, the two clubs’ values are not far away.

For his playing style and Scandinavian heritage, Hojlund has been compared to Erling Haaland.
