This move follows the recent loan completion of midfielder Hannibal, creating a connection between the two players at the Spanish club.

The specifics of Mejia’s transfer involve a flexible fee structure, influenced by his success and on-field performances in Seville. Additionally, the deal includes a notable sell-on percentage from any potential future transfer.

Mejia’s exit marks the first permanent departure for United in this transfer window, aligning with the club’s efforts to reduce the wage bill by allowing players like Alvaro Fernandez, Maxi Oyedele, Donny van de Beek, Jadon Sancho, Hannibal, and Joe Hugill to leave on loan.

While Mejia never made a first-team appearance for Manchester United, he trained with the senior squad and was part of the pre-season tour to the USA last summer.

The Colombian youth international has been a consistent presence in the Under-21 side this season, showcasing his skills with three goals and five assists in nine Premier League 2 matches.

The club expressed their well-wishes to Mejia for his future endeavors, emphasizing their interest in following his career progression.

This strategic move aligns with United’s recent policy of parting ways with young players who may face challenges stepping up to the senior squad, continuing a trend observed in previous transfers involving players like Matej Kovar, Charlie Savage, and Zidane Iqbal.

Sevilla, the reigning Europa League champions, are hopeful that the addition of players like Mejia can contribute positively to their campaign.

As they navigate a challenging season in La Liga, sitting just outside the relegation zone, Mejia might soon make his debut for Sevilla, potentially featuring in the upcoming clash against table-topping Girona on Sunday.
