Get rid: Ralf must bin £78k-p/w MUFC dud who lost the ball every 3 touches yesterday – opinion

The overall performance of the two teams was quite comparable, with the home team actually having less control (44 percent) of the ball over the length of the game, but they did have an advantage in the shape of the ever-present Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese goal machine grabbed a hat-trick in a record-breaking display against Antonio Conte’s side, as his goals in the encounter, yesterday added to his massive career tally, making him the highest-scoring men’s footballer in the game’s history.

Despite Ronaldo’s outstanding performance, Manchester United’s defensive play was questionable once again, with Harry Maguire gifting Tottenham an own goal in the 72nd minute to level the score, but thankfully Ronaldo gave his team the lifeline they needed when he found the back of the net for the third time in the 81st minute.

Alex Telles was one player in particular who wasn’t up to par on the backline, and his performance for the squad did not reflect the final score.

According to SofaScore, the £78k-per-week Brazilian full-back was given the joint lowest rating on the pitch (6.2), which is understandable given that he gave up a penalty in the first half.

His numbers, on the other hand, make for a somewhat depressing read. He lost possession of the ball in all three of his 65 touches, made no interceptions, lost all of his aerial duels, and lost the bulk of his ground duels as well (55 percent ). Although he provided an assist for Ronaldo’s third goal, the defender was more of a problem than an assist for his team defensively.

Ralf Rangnick does have another option at left-back in Luke Shaw, and it will be intriguing to watch if the German coach switches up the defensive line yet again for their crucial Champions League match against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night.

Rangnick’s team will face one of, if not the, most significant game of the season at Old Trafford, therefore he must make the proper selection decisions to avoid a tragedy.
