Manchester United met with Benjamin Sesko’s agent last Wednesday, but Red Bull Salzburg will not sell this window until a bid in excess of £55 million is received.
This transfer season, the 19-year-old striker has been linked with moves to Newcastle, Bayern Munich, and Borussia Dortmund, but it looks like United is ahead of the pack.
Sesko has had a fantastic start to the season, scoring two goals in Salzburg’s opening two games, and the club is hesitant to let him go.
Last week, Sesko’s agent sparked speculation by posting an Instagram photo of himself eating dinner near the Tyne Bridge. However, no official conversations or approaches have yet occurred from Newcastle.
The Magpies are still looking for more offensive firepower and have been connected with moves for Harvey Barnes and Jack Harrison.
Manchester United’s interest in Sesko comes at a time when Cristiano Ronaldo’s future is unknown. Although the Portuguese legend returned to the club this week, United is still hunting for a replacement for its iconic number seven.
Sesko, who scored the game-winning goal in Salzburg’s recent 1-0 pre-season win over Liverpool, is regarded as a possible substitute for Ronaldo.
Ajax winger Anthony and Stuttgart striker Sasa Kalajdzic have also been linked with the club.
United’s Premier League season kicks off next Sunday when they host Brighton.
