The England international is presently competing in the Formula One Spanish Grand Prix alongside colleague Ben Chilwell and loanee Joao Felix from last season. Mount has signed personal terms with United, but he is yet to commit to a new deal at Stamford Bridge.

Mount has been linked with United in recent weeks, with Liverpool the main big six team thought to be interested in the 24-year-old. Mount’s contract at Chelsea expires in the summer of 2024, and a departure during the forthcoming transfer window becomes more possible as the days and weeks pass – albeit no compensation has been agreed upon.

Mount was contacted by Martin Brundle, who asked him about his future during Sky Sports’ coverage of the Spanish Grand Prix.

“I’m just here to enjoy the race today,” the midfielder answered. Amazing day; I can’t wait to see it.”

Chelsea have confirmed the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino as manager, with the Blues faced with improving on a disappointing season that saw them finish 12th in the Premier League. Chilwell is looking forward to working under the former Tottenham Hotspur and PSG manager but hopes Mount stays with him this summer, adding that his ‘best pal’ would stay at Stamford Bridge.

When Sky Sports contacted Chilwell at the Grand Prix, he replied, “There’s Mason! He has no idea – just look at him hurrying away! I mean, it’s none of my concern, but I’d like him to stay. He’s my best friend, so I’d like to see him stay. But it’s none of my business, and I can’t really remark.”
