From January 1st, the former Paris Saint-Germain striker will be free to negotiate with potential teams and possibly sign a pre-contract.

Cavani signed a one-year contract extension with United in May, but since Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival, he has lost his jersey number and his starting spot.

And, given that the Uruguayan has only started two Premier League games this season, the chances of him signing another contract appears to be small.

Mirror Football considers five prospective destinations for Cavani as he considers his next move.

Juventus

According to reports from Tuttosport, Massimiliano Allegri’s side is seriously contemplating signing Cavani.

Alvaro Morata, Moise Kean, Paulo Dubala, and Kaio Jorge, Juventus’ center-forwards, have only scored nine goals in Serie A this season.

The Bianconeri are rumored to be considering a move for Dusan Vlahovic in the future, but the Fiorentina star has already stated that he would not leave the club in January.

Cavani and PSG’s Mauro Icardi are also thought to be options for Allegri’s side in the January transfer window.

Cavani has extensive familiarity with Serie A, having spent six years with Napoli and Palermo in the league.

A transfer to Juventus could be ideal for Cavani.

Barcelona

According to multiple sources, the Catalans are also chasing Cavani as a possible bargain signing.

Barcelona’s transfer budget remains tight, as the club tries to address the financial problems that have afflicted them since last summer.

Xavi’s side is thought to be investigating either low-cost deals or free transfers, and they don’t come any better than Cavani.

Cavani is reportedly keen on joining the Blaugrana when his contract expires at the end of the season, according to reports in The Times.

Boca Juniors

While many sources indicate Cavani believes he can play at the highest level of European football for at least another two years, his father has stated that he wants to return to his native South America.

According to an interview his father had with TyC Sports, Boca Juniors appears to be the team he would most like to play for (Via Manchester Evening News ).

“In March 2020, he said, “My son does not feel at ease in England and wishes to be closer to his family once more.”

“Edinson will end up performing in South America. I want Edinson to be a part of a team that is fighting for something meaningful.

“Edinson spoke with Riquelme several times and expressed his desire to play for Boca. The notion of playing in Boca always enticed him. If he returns to South America, he wants to go to Boca Raton.”

Penarol

Prior to joining United, it appeared that Cavani was on his way to Uruguayan powerhouse Penarol.

In reality, the deal appeared to be done and dusted as Christian Rodriguex, a Penarol midfielder and personal friend of Cavani, stated that he is “About to arrive” to the club.

“”I have the authority to speak about Edi,” he told the Sun’s FM Del Sol.

“I can’t say anything else because he’s about to arrive at Penarol.”

Make a phone call to him and inquire.”

While the move did not go through at the time, it appears there is enough evidence to suggest Cavani would benefit from a return to his homeland.

Napoli

During his time at Napoli, Edinson Cavani established himself as one of the most dangerous strikers in the world.

In 140 games, he scored 104 goals and added 14 assists for a total of 104 goals and 14 assists.

Cavani also scored 29 goals in 34 games, compelling PSG to pay £55 million for him.

Despite a recent hiccup in form, in which Luciano Spaletti’s side has only won one of their past five Serie A games, Napoli is still in the title race and on track to qualify for the Champions League.

An emotional return to Naples could be the ideal way for him to conclude his European career.
