Alejandro Garnacho, a teenage sensation, is ready to sign a new contract with Manchester United that will see his salary increased tenfold.

Garnacho has blasted into the limelight at Old Trafford this season after quickly integrating into the first-team squad after joining United from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2020 after impressing at the youth-team level. He has scored twice in his last four appearances.

The Argentine superstar did not make his country’s World Cup roster, but he appears to be bound for fame for both club and country. His stock grew even higher after scoring a 93rd-minute winner for United in their recent Premier League triumph over Fulham.

Concerns had been raised that United would lose the 18-year-old as a free agent this summer, with his contract expiring at the end of the season and other clubs theoretically free to sign a pre-contract agreement with the forward in January.

However, it is believed that Garnacho is close to signing a new long-term contract with United, with the Daily Star reporting that his weekly wage at the club will increase from £5k to £50k.

Negotiations between the parties are well underway, and an agreement is expected to be reached within the next several weeks. Garnacho’s stock has risen in recent weeks following a sensational strike against Real Sociedad, a superb assist for Scott McTominay in the EFL Cup win over Aston Villa, and then a late winner at Craven Cottage.

Garnacho has now established himself as a member of Manchester United’s senior squad, and with Cristiano Ronaldo likely to have played his final game for the club, he is likely to continue to play a significant role for Erik ten Hag’s side. In the wide attacking positions, Antony, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Anthony Elanga provide stiff competition, but Ten Hag has shown a tendency to rotate the positions.

After the win at Fulham, team captain Bruno Fernandes explained United’s man of the hour: “He has a lot of talent, and obviously his work rate combined with his talent makes a difference for us. This is not the first time he has made a significant impact on us, and we know he can provide us with goals and assists. I believe everyone is seeing signs of that, not because of goals and assists, but because he is coming off the bench, and no one likes being on the bench, so the attitude he has when he comes off the bench has been fantastic, and he deserves the rewards he is receiving.”

United manager Ten Hag said of the forward: “It’s a big skill he has, always finding the balance, but that’s a skill you need to be at the top of. He came in and made an immediate impact, just like he did on Thursday, so well done.”
