GOODNESS – Man Utd star Lisandro Martinez’s injury ‘better than expected’ despite leaving on crutches

According to sources, Lisandro Martinez’s injury is not as serious as first thought, despite the Manchester United defender departing Old Trafford on crutches. On Thursday night, there was anxiety within the stadium that the World Cup winner had ruptured his Achilles’ tendon, requiring a lengthy and considerable layoff.

Thankfully, United manager Ten Hag has already ruled out the possibility that Martinez’s injury is related to his Achilles.

Gaston Edul, a Tyc Sports reporter who worked closely with the Argentina national team during the World Cup, has provided a brief update on Martinez’s condition.

“Lisandro Martinez is not going to do any more studies today [Thursday],” he tweeted last night. He’ll know what he has tomorrow [Friday].

“The Achilles tendon was ruled out (which is great news). He walked away on crutches. It could be the fifth metatarsal, and the prognosis is promising.”

Martinez was traveling with the ball when he felt something at the back of his ankle and collapsed to the ground in excruciating pain.

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes suggested in the BT Sport studio that the Argentina international had sustained Achilles damage as a result of the way Martinez went down uncontested.

“It’s difficult for us to say, but it appears he’s done his Achilles, which is a bad one,” the ex-midfielder explained.

“I remember playing a game with Nicky Butt and he did something similar.” ‘Who kicked me?’ he inquired.

“He felt like someone went through him, and I’m sure Martinez did as well.” I’ve never done the damage myself, but when there’s no one nearby and something in the rear of your ankle and heel goes, you’d have to suspect Achilles, which is a bad one.”

International teammates Marcos Acuna and Gonzalo Montiel carried Martinez off the field.

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel believes the pair’s antics helped Sevilla draw level late in the game with an injury-time equalizer courtesy of a Harry Maguire own goal.

“It appears that the Sevilla players are being courteous in carrying him off the field.” No, they just wanted him out of the way so they could get going,” the Dane explained to BBC Radio 5Live.

“By carrying him off, Manchester United did not lose momentum; they used their five subs knowing he would not return.”

“It didn’t allow the manager or the players to have a conversation.” United’s players should have stopped him, left him on the field, and let them [the medical staff] come on and carry him out while you regroup.

“This is something the players must do; there is a lack of leadership on the field.” That matter should have been handled by Harry Maguire. When the manager notices his player being carried off by two opposing players, he should have intervened.”

The £57m summer signing was noticeably upset as he exited the field with only four minutes and stoppage time remaining.

Ten Hag stated that it is too early to speculate on what is wrong with the 25-year-old center-back.

“There was no opponent involved,” Ten Hag explained. “We’ll just have to wait and see.”
