Since his arrest on rape charges, the young English forward has not trained or played for the club.

The 20-year-old is not among their Premier League 25-man squad, but he is on a list of Under-21 players who could theoretically play for United if needed.

According to the Daily Mail, Greenwood’s selection is simply a formality, and he will not play for United until his legal problem is resolved.

Greenwood is now free on bail, although it was renewed in June at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court.

He was initially arrested in January for the alleged offense but has yet to be charged or released.

“Because the outcome of bail reviews has no impact on the progression of investigations, Greater Manchester Police will not be giving any further updates in regard to this case until the suspect is charged or freed facing no further action,” a GMP spokeswoman stated.
