Fabrizio Romano says Man United attacker will leave Old Trafford this summer
According to a recent report from prominent football transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, the South American striker would not be extending his stay at Old Trafford.
Cavani, 35, joined the Red Devils on a free transfer in the summer of 2020 when his contract with Paris-Saint-Germain expired.
Since joining the Premier League, the seasoned Uruguay international has personally contributed to 26 goals in 55 games across all competitions.
However, due to a series of minor ailments, the 35-year-game old’s time has been drastically reduced in recent years, much to the chagrin of some supporters.
Confirming that the former PSG striker has a lot of say over his playing time, interim manager Ralf Rangnick stated following United’s 1-1 draw with Southampton last month (as quoted by Mirror): “Edi trained well in the last three days but, in the end, he didn’t feel quite well enough to play.”
Although many United fans will be devastated by Cavani’s departure, there is no disputing that United needs to focus on finding a younger, more fresh-faced striker – especially if they want to keep Cristiano Ronaldo (37) for another season.
Edinson Cavani’s plan for June has not changed and it’s gonna be confirmed soon. He’s set to leave Manchester United as free agent, looking for a new experience 🔴🇺🇾 #MUFC
