‘It is not my fault but …’ – Erik ten Hag disagrees with Paul Scholes over meek Man Utd after Champions League exit

However, this assessment was met with disagreement from former United player Paul Scholes.

The defeat, marking United’s 12th loss of the season, has left them at the bottom of Champions League Group A, without even securing a place in the Europa League.

United’s campaign in the Champions League saw them amass only four points out of a possible 18, with a lone victory at home against Copenhagen.

They suffered defeats both away and at home to Galatasaray and were unable to secure a positive result against Bayern in both encounters.

Manager Ten Hag acknowledged the missed opportunities and individual errors that cost them points throughout the campaign.

Despite facing a formidable opponent in Bayern, Ten Hag believed his team performed well, emphasizing that the disappointment stemmed from not accumulating enough points.

However, Scholes, expressing a different viewpoint, characterized United’s performance as “frightened” and highlighted a notable absence of goal threat.

He suggested that Bayern had additional gears to exploit, raising concerns about United’s ability to score goals.

Adding to United’s challenges, they endured injuries to key players Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire during the match.

Kingsley Coman’s 71st-minute goal, assisted by Harry Kane, secured a comfortable victory for Bayern, who had already secured a place in the last 16.

Kane, reflecting on the match, asserted that Bayern controlled the game, had better chances, and could have capitalized on additional gears if necessary.

Despite their strong start to the season, Kane believes there is room for improvement and expressed the ambition to go far and win the Champions League.
