Despite rumours that he wants to leave Old Trafford following the club’s failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League, Ronaldo and his high-profile agent Jorge Mendes have struggled to find a buyer.

With the Red Devils refusing to release the five-time Ballon d’Or winner from his two-year contract, of which one year is left, the next few weeks will be critical for the Portuguese megastar.

Interestingly, despite previously speaking with Chelsea and new owner Todd Boehly, as we exclusively reported at the time, the Blues were never expected to make a formal proposal.

However, super-agent Jon Smith believes that could alter before the transfer window closes at the beginning of next month.

“He’s a very, very expensive addition, and at 37, he’s really only one serious injury away from retiring,” Smith said in an exclusive interview.

“I am not certain that many clubs are willing to accept that risk, especially given that he would arrive with absolutely little resale value.”

“Although it appears that Ronaldo will serve out his contract at Old Trafford, I wouldn’t be shocked if Todd Boehly takes the bait if he finds himself still failing to close deals in the window’s last week.”
