United will appoint a successor to interim manager Ralf Rangnick in the future. The new coach will be in charge of a crowded summer transfer window.

As things stand, a slew of players, including Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba, will leave Old Trafford. Meanwhile, Manchester United sources have reiterated that the club is prepared to land their top targets even if they do not qualify for the Champions League next season.

While the midfield and attack are said to be priority areas, sources suggest that United may also strengthen their defense. Indeed, Akanji, Dortmund’s Switzerland international center-back, is said to be a top target.

When Niklas Sule’s contract with Bayern Munich expires in the summer, the German giants have agreed to sign him. Akanji’s current Dortmund contract expires in 2023, and he is now seeking an extension.

However, negotiations have stalled because the 26-year-old — who Dortmund might sell for £20.8 million – demands €10 million each season. However, according to the most recent reports from Bild, Manchester United has now offered Akanji a four-year contract.

Furthermore, they have offered the center-back €15 million each season, which is much higher than his demands from Dortmund.

Rangnick has reportedly persuaded United to sign Akanji, the latest Bundesliga star. Indeed, the interim manager at Old Trafford admires RB Leipzig player Christopher Nkunku.

Akanji has appeared in 28 games in all competitions, including 18 in the Bundesliga.
