Erik Ten Hag told to drop £158m big money signings on the bench and start Ronaldo – players accused of wasting too much time on ball

Manchester United were expected to bounce back and put in a good performance against Omonia Nicosia after their 6-3 loss to Manchester City last weekend. Unfortunately, that performance left much to be desired and raised more questions than it answered.

Manchester United came away with a narrow victory, beating Omonia Nicosia 3-2, with two goals from Marcus Rashford and another from Anthony Martial.

However, it was a frustrating night for many Manchester United players, who expected to do much better than they did against the Cypriot team. One of them was Antony, who was a big summer signing from Ajax.

And Erik ten Hag has been asked to do without the Brazilian winger for the next game against Everton next weekend. As TEAMtalk reports, Paul Scholes told BT Sport:

“There aren’t many games Cristiano can play in, but I think Everton could be one of them. “It’s not a very big pitch, he won’t have to run around, work the channels.

I think the two guys who played today, Jadon Sancho and Antony, I know Antony scored on Sunday [against Manchester City], but I think Martial and Rashford look more dangerous.”

“I think they have a bit more of a leading role. They can go anywhere, they are quick, defenders will be scared of them.”

It’s fair to say that Antony has had a rollercoaster start to life at Manchester United. On the one hand, he has scored in his two Premier League appearances, and also against Arsenal and Manchester City, the two best teams in the table at the moment.

But on the other hand, he has also had some shaky performances. The Brazilian is arguably an enigma at the moment.

Would it be the wisest decision to do without him at this stage? Probably not. Especially since Cristiano Ronaldo had a dreadful performance against Omonia Nicosia.

Instead, an attacking trio of Rashford, Martial and Antony could be the most likely route Ten Hag will take against Frank Lampard’s Everton side.
