The announcement of Lady Cathy’s passing came through a statement issued by the Ferguson family on Friday afternoon. Her significant influence and unwavering support for Sir Alex during his remarkable 26-year tenure at Old Trafford and beyond has prompted an outpouring of tributes.

Lady Cathy and Sir Alex were blessed with three sons, including Darren, currently the manager of Peterborough United, along with Mark and Jason. They also had 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The couple’s love story began in 1964, culminating in 57 years of marriage.

The family’s statement expressed: “We are deeply saddened to confirm the passing yesterday [Thursday] of Lady Cathy Ferguson, survived by her husband, three sons, two sisters, 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The family asks for privacy at this time.”

In a show of respect for Lady Cathy’s passing, both Manchester United and Arsenal donned black armbands during their WSL match at Leigh Sports Village. This touching tribute by the women’s teams followed the lowering of flags to half-mast at Old Trafford.
