Vinicius Jr scored the game’s sole goal just before the hour mark to secure Real Madrid’s 14th European title.

Mbappe’s decision to reject Carlo Ancelotti’s side in favor of a new £650,000-a-week agreement with Paris Saint-Germain complicated the build-up to the final.

Perez stated that the Mbappe incident has been forgotten and that Real Madrid would “continue to focus on having the finest players.”

‘I’m calm and thrilled, we’ve all worked hard all season to be in a situation like this,’ he told Movistar+.

‘Real Madrid will always strive to have the finest players, but Mbappe has already been forgotten.’

‘Nothing has happened, Real Madrid has had a flawless season, and it is a forgotten matter, there is only a Real Madrid celebration,’ he says.

‘Mbappe to Real Madrid was a possibility, but he made his choice, it’s his own decision,’ Perez later told Sky Sports.

‘Real Madrid will remain Real Madrid, Mbappe will remain Mbappe, and PSG will remain PSG – nothing will change as a result of the purchase.’

Real had multiple proposals for Mbappe rejected last year, including one for £154 million.

His new contract with PSG goes until 2025, and he hasn’t ruled out a move to Real Madrid after that.

Mbappe told BBC Sport: ‘You never know what can happen in the future.’ I no longer care about the future; I just think about the now, and the present is that I signed a new three-year contract extension with Paris Saint-Germain.’

When asked if his ambition of playing for Real Madrid was ended, Mbappe said, ‘Never over.’

The striker said that he personally notified Real president Perez of his wish to stay at PSG.

‘It was last week,’ he continued. I didn’t tell my teammates about it because the club didn’t want me to. They wanted to keep it a secret and a surprise for everyone, even if keeping surprises was difficult.

‘I have a lot of respect for him and their club; they’ve gone out of their way to make me happy.’ As a respectful person, I felt I owed it to them to speak to them directly, and that was the best thing to do.

‘We were able to finalize the contract and make the announcement in the Parc des Princes.’

Mbappe has scored 171 goals in 217 outings since joining PSG on loan in 2017.

Mbappe has four Ligue 1 titles and three Coupe de France titles to his name.
