Garnacho was recalled to the starting XI a week after his daring full debut against FC Sheriff and scored his first career goal in the 1-0 Europa League win over Real Sociedad.

Ten Hag stated last week that Garnacho’s poor attitude had delayed his first pre-season appearance when he traveled with United on a tour of Thailand and Australia but did not play.

Garnacho, 18, appeared three times this season before starting against Sheriff, and he was also sent down to the Under-21s to compete in EFL Trophy games against Carlisle and Barrow.

With Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial, and Antony all out due to illness or injury, Garnacho shone from the left wing to score the game’s lone goal in San Sebastian.

“Of course, we are sad that we did not succeed in scoring with a two-goal difference,” Ten Hag remarked. “But we win, keep a clean sheet, and have more options in the forefront with Garnacho.

“He’s coming along nicely. I hope he can preserve his current attitude. When he is dependable, you can see he is a threat; he can create, make last passes, and score goals, so it’s a positive process.”

Ten Hag appeared to be frustrated with the officials on several occasions during the second half, but he was gracious in his post-match press conference.

“The (Sociedad) fans did all possible in the setting to slow down the game, and they were victorious by only losing 1-0.

“I’d like to congratulate them on their victory. We are a united team, and while we are always upset when we are not number one, we have some positives to take to Manchester.”
