Bale joined Real Madrid in 2013 after leaving Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur. He had a strong start to his career in Spain, winning the UEFA Champions League in his first season and contributing to the club’s following European success under Zinedine Zidane.

However, due to persistent ailments and a quarrel with the French strategist, Bale fell out of favor at Real Madrid. The Welsh international has struggled for game time at the Santiago Bernabeu in recent years, despite continuing to play for the national team and perform well.

Bale spent the previous season on loan at Tottenham and, upon his return, has struggled to find playing time under Carlo Ancelotti this season. With his contract set to expire at the end of the current season, the 32-year-old is almost certain to pack his belongings and go during the summer transfer window.

A return to Tottenham has been discussed, but it is unlikely to happen. Spurs’ archrivals Arsenal has also been linked, while Bale is garnering interest from the United States.

Despite their fierce rivalry with Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid has surfaced as a prospective suitor for Bale. The Rojiblancos had a terrible season in 2021/22. After a meek capitulation this season, they are seeking to add more quality to their squad over the summer in order to fight for the crown.

Atletico Madrid wants reinforcements on the attack since Luis Suarez’s contract is set to expire in the summer. Matheus Cunha has also not performed as planned. So, for the current Spanish champions, adding more alternatives to the frontline makes sense.

Bale has emerged as a target in this regard, despite the fact that he has barely featured for Real Madrid this season. According to the article, Simeone acknowledges the risk but believes he might be a useful signing if everything falls into place. It remains to be seen whether such a move will take place.
