Erik ten Hag can be the ‘new Sir Alex Ferguson’ as Man Utd ridiculed for ‘having no idea’

According to Liverpool veteran Steve Nicol, Manchester United require Erik ten Hag to become the club’s next Sir Alex Ferguson and take charge of the club. Ten Hag, the manager of Ajax, was interviewed for the United position this week and is considered one of the favorites to take over at Old Trafford at the end of the season.

Since Ferguson’s retirement in 2013, the Red Devils have had four permanent managers. Ralf Rangnick is now in charge and will leave to work as a consultant at the end of the season.

During his illustrious tenure as manager of Manchester United, Ferguson had considerable power and influence. According to Nicol, the team is expecting to “stumble onto” another player in Scot’s mold.

Ten Hag, according to Nicol, is currently the finest option to fill that role. “I kind of get the idea that the leadership at Manchester United is searching, or hoping, for an Alex Ferguson, who’s actually going to come in and declare ‘this is what we’re going to do,'” he told ESPN FC.

“I’m getting that vibe because they clearly don’t [know what to do].” As a result, I believe Ten Hag is the only one that meets the bill.

“The point is, Rangnick, they attempted that with the last man. They expected him to walk in and tell them what to do, but look what happened. They’re basically grasping at straws.”

According to Nicol, United requires their next manager to be as powerful as Ferguson because they are incapable of making the right judgments on their own. When asked who the best manager for Manchester United is, he replied, “There is no answer.”

“They tried everything.” They’ve tried a young defender, a young defender in Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer], they’ve tried everything.

“And the reason they’ve tried everything is that they have no idea what they’re doing.” Expecting them to turn around and make a decent decision, assuming one is made, would be wishful thinking. That’s all there is to it.

“There’s no reason for us to sit here and believe Manchester United has a strategy and knows what they’re doing.” They’ve demonstrated, since Alex Ferguson’s departure, that they don’t know what their left arm is telling their right arm to do. They’ve got no idea.”
