Ajax striker Brian Brobbey has revealed that Erik ten Hag told him he wanted to lure him to Old Trafford.

However, Brobbey could only provide three assists in 14 appearances for Die Roten Bullen in the first half of the campaign, and was loaned out to the Dutch giants six months later.

On his reunion with Ten Hag, Brobbey rediscovered his form, scoring seven goals in 11 Eredivisie appearances, and returned to Amsterdam permanently for £14.7m.

With the Red Devils facing uncertainty over the futures of Anthony Martial and Cristiano Ronaldo, Ten Hag were quick to sign Brobbey and lure him to the Theatre of Dreams.

The transfer never materialised, but Brobbey claimed Ten Hag would have welcomed him to Manchester United.

“Erik [Ten Hag] sent me a message, yes, to congratulate me, and to say he would love to have me at Manchester United,” Brobbey told ESPN. “But I’m not done with Ajax yet, I want to prove something here first.”

When news broke of Ten Hag’s move to Old Trafford, Brobbey joked that he would get his former manager to sign him for the 20-time English champions.

“I’m very happy for [Erik ten Hag], he really deserves it after all he’s done for Ajax. I hope he will take me with him in two years time…. no no…. I’m kidding!” the attacker told the press.
