Ten Hag met with Avram Glazer at United’s pre-season base in New Jersey, having earlier stated his desire to speak with the owners about the takeover controversy.

The Glazers announced their intention to sell United in November of last year, and despite receiving proposals that matched their £6 billion asking price, there has been no movement on their future with the club.

Despite meeting the asking price, bids from Britain’s richest man, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, and Qatari Sheikh Jassim have yet to be accepted.

The Glazer family, who are thought to be split on whether or not to sell the club, is also holding up the takeover.

Avram and Joel Glazer are said to want to keep control of the Old Trafford club, but other members of the family prefer to sell their stake.

The discontent is also visible within the Raine Group, the US investment bank tasked with overseeing the club’s takeover.

However, they are said to be growing increasingly dissatisfied with the Glazers’ refusal to accept either bid that matches their asking price.

The Raine Group believes they have been asked to sell something that was never for sale in the first place, given Avram and Joel Glazer’s positions on the club’s sale.

As the drama continues nine months after the Glazers announced their intention to sell United, a process that was expected to take two to three months, it is now affecting Ten Hag’s preparations for the summer.

United have already completed the signings of Mason Mount and Andre Onana, but the Dutchman is still looking for a deeper midfielder and a striker.
