Manchester United has agreed in principle to recruit Denmark international Christian Eriksen on a free transfer as part of manager Erik ten Hag’s summer rebuild.

The manager of Manchester United, who will go to Thailand with his squad on Friday to begin the club’s pre-season tour, is anxious to transform the landscape of his side’s midfield options this summer, and Eriksen appears to be his first new addition in that section of the team. According to the Manchester Evening News, United is currently working hard to finalize a deal and sign him to a three-year contract.

Brentford, who signed him on a short-term contract in January, offered him a new contract, but he refused to commit his future to the Bees.

It means he is now on the verge of joining Manchester United. With a deal to bring Tyrell Malacia to M16 getting closer to completion, he might become United’s second signing of the summer.

With that in mind, MEN Sport has taken a thorough look at how United could line up this season if they sign Malacia and Eriksen, as well as three other transfer targets.

David de Gea is the goalkeeper.

Although some have questioned De Gea’s distribution, the Spaniard more than deserves to be the starting goalkeeper for the upcoming season. He was fantastic last season, putting up a succession of fine displays to help United secure some crucial Premier League points.

Following Dean Henderson’s loan move to Nottingham Forest, he is now a sure starter, and he deserves it. He was instrumental last term and one of the few bright spots.

Diogo Dalot, Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, and Tyrell Malacia play defense.

United are getting closer to completing the signing of Feyenoord left-back Malacia, who will battle with Luke Shaw for the left-back position. Both players will seek to gain as many opportunities as possible and may rotate frequently.

Meanwhile, United have made a £37 million proposal for Ajax center-back Martinez, who could be the center-back they are looking for. Because he is left-footed, he would be an ideal option to replace Harry Maguire in the back four and take the left-sided center-back spot. Dalot and Varane would retain their positions at right and center back, respectively.

Fred, Frenkie de Jong, and Christian Eriksen play in the midfield.

United needs to make the most changes in midfield this summer, and Eriksen’s likely arrival at Old Trafford will be the first. He’d be in direct competition with Bruno Fernandes for the No.10 spot, which means he and Fernandes, like Shaw and Malacia, might swap frequently. Fernandes wasn’t at his best last season, but competition could help him improve.

If United were to sign De Jong, he would be a sure starter in a midfield three, most likely with Fred, if they were unable to recruit a defensive-minded midfielder. Fred would be a great fit for De Jong, providing both energy and defensive acumen.

Antony, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Jadon Sancho lead the attack.

If Ronaldo stays at United this summer, he will be guaranteed a starting spot at the top of the pitch. He was the club’s highest scorer last season, with 24 goals, and if United can keep him, no one will be able to start ahead of him.

United are still looking for a right-sided winger, with Ajax’s Antony at the top of Ten Hag’s wish list. Sancho, who joined United over a year ago, is expected to open the season on the left wing, where he excelled last season.
