Arsenal have been interested in Crystal Palace superstar Wilfried Zaha for three years, according to reports.

The Gunners are looking for a new striker to sign before the summer transfer window closes on Thursday. Former Arsenal boss Unai Emery was keen to bring Zaha to the Emirates Stadium in 2019, but after a £40m bid was rejected by Palace, the move failed to materialise with Ivory Coast team-mate Nicolas Pepe joining for £72m.

Zaha has admitted in the past that he has always been an Arsenal fan, which could give the Gunners an advantage in a potential tussle with Chelsea, who are also interested in signing the 29-year-old. Manager Edu could finally complete Arsenal’s three-year deal to sign Zaha this summer. Mikel Arteta hopes to add another player or two to his squad before the deadline.

The Crystal Palace star has made a good start to the 2022/23 campaign, scoring three goals in three games, but missed the defeat to Manchester City with a leg injury sustained in the 3-1 win over Aston Villa. According to Fabrizio Romano, Zaha’s agents have been exploring options for the player in this summer’s transfer window, with just one year left on his contract at Selhurst Park.

Reports suggest that if Chelsea fail in their attempts to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Anthony Gordon before the transfer deadline, the Blues will target a move for Zaha instead. Arsenal could deal Chelsea a blow by signing the Palace star before Todd Boehly opens negotiations.

Zaha was reportedly close to a move to Jose Mourinho’s Roma in Italy before the Serie A side opted to sign Paulo Dybala. After Nicolas Pepe left on loan, the Gunners would need another striker to compete with Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Emile Smith Rowe and Fabio Vieira.

The 29-year-old has scored 86 goals and provided 73 assists in 433 appearances for the Eagles, but his time at Selhurst Park could come to an end this summer. Zaha has shown no sign of wanting to sign a new contract with Patrick Vieira’s side, and interest is beginning to mount with four days remaining in the transfer window. Arsenal are rumoured to be considering acquiring the Palace superstar and agreeing a three-year deal.
