Morgan Schneiderlin has spoken out about his decision to join Everton from Manchester United, admitting that he’regretted it very quickly.’

Schneiderlin was bought for £31.5 million by United in the summer of 2015 to fix their defensive-midfield problem after the Frenchman starred for three seasons at Southampton in the Premier League.

While he was never able to match his form with the Saints at Old Trafford, he remained a regular in the side, but after losing his status in Jose Mourinho’s lineup towards the close of 2016, he forced through a move to Everton.

Schneiderlin, on the other hand, has stated that he rapidly regretted the transfer, with things not faring much better on Merseyside, and that his choice to stay and battle for his spot at Nice last summer when the French club was looking to move him on was influenced by that experience.

“My departure from Manchester United taught me a lot,” the now 32-year-old old L’Equipe.

“With Manchester, I had played 40 games the previous season.” When I return from the Euros, I take 10 days off and play very sporadically for the next three to four months.

“Then there’s Ronald Koeman and Everton, who have been working tirelessly to sign me since October.” I’ll never forget it: I was supposed to start against Liverpool on October 17, 2016, and the coach (Mourinho) came to see me.

“He says he doesn’t notice me in the group.” I inform him that, given the events of the last three months, I am no longer in it and that I want to join Everton.

“I instantly regretted it.” Even if things went well at Everton (Jan. 2017-2020), when you play for Manchester United, when you’re at a club like that, you don’t have to second-guess everything.

“Look at Ander Herrera: he was on the bench the first year I arrived; he stuck it out, and now he’s at PSG.”
