Manchester United have signed Alejandro Garnacho to a new five-year contract.

Garnacho, who joined United from Atletico Madrid as a 16-year-old in 2020, has burst into the first squad at Old Trafford this season under boss Erik ten Hag.

Garnacho scored twice in the FA Youth Cup final last season as United won the trophy for the 11th time, and the 18-year-old is already making his impact at the senior level.

Garnacho has already made 31 appearances for the first team.

“I dreamed of making my debut, playing at Old Trafford, scoring my first goal, and winning trophies with this badge on my chest when I joined this incredible club,” he said.

“I’m very proud and emotional to have already experienced these moments with my family, who have been there for me every step of the way.”

“We are all humbled to have this opportunity to continue our journey at Manchester United, and I have already started working on achieving the next set of goals and objectives.”

“The manager and his coaching staff have assisted me in every way, and with their help, I am developing each day to help the team succeed.”

“I am looking forward to the future and can’t wait to make more special memories with this group in front of our incredible supporters.”

“Alejandro has really dedicated himself to achieving the objectives that the club set for him since he arrived in Manchester,” United director of Football John Murtough stated.

“His talent, drive, and determination to succeed propelled him quickly from our academy to the first team, and this new long-term contract reflects our confidence in him to continue his exciting development under Erik and his staff.”

“Alejandro has huge potential, and we are all looking forward to working with him to ensure he can fulfill his ambitions here at Manchester United in the coming years.”

Garnacho will return to partial team training on Friday, according to United boss Erik ten Hag, and could be part of the matchday squad for the visit of Aston Villa on Sunday.

The teenager has been sidelined with an ankle injury since the middle of March, missing United’s past five league games.

“He will train (on Friday) in team training, partially,” Ten Hag added. “We’ll see if he can return to the team properly with training and then back in full games.”

Ten Hag further stated that he will not allow Garnacho to compete in the FIFA U20 World Cup this summer. The event begins before the end of the Premier League season.

United lead Unai Emery’s Villa by six points, but Ten Hag’s team has two games in hand on the Midlands club.
