Since joining Bayern Munich from Borussia Dortmund over eight years ago, Robert Lewandowski has had a remarkable career. The Polish striker was already a prolific finisher during his time with the Black and Yellows, but he has stepped up his game significantly during his time with the Bundesliga winners.

This season, the 33-year-old has stamped his authority once more, with 47 goals and four assists in 41 games across all competitions. However, Lewandowski’s future at Bayern Munich is uncertain, as his contract expires in a little more than a year. A case like this has piqued the interest of Barcelona.

The Barcelona interest derives from the growing uncertainty surrounding the futures of Martin Braithwaite and Luuk de Jong. The pair are expected to leave Camp Nou in the summer, leaving Xavi Hernandez with only Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as a genuine striker at his disposal.

Lewandowski is thus a potential target for Barcelona, despite Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn’s recent insistence that the Pole will not be leaving in the summer. Mateu Alemany, Barcelona’s sporting director, has now responded to reports linking Lewandowski to the Blaugrana.

“We hold him in high regard; he is a vital member of his club.” We’re in the realm of journalistic speculation, which makes sense. But, as I have stated, we do not have an agreement with anyone. If we become interested in a footballer, we will contact his club.”

“I believe we will need to finalize the squad pretty soon.” We’re analyzing, and we’re on the market. Logically, we have an obligation to pay close attention to everything that happens, especially given our current economic condition. Right now, we’re focused on completing the season as successfully as possible.”
