It means the Spaniard has now won the trophy for three months in a row.

Our number one received 67 percent of the vote in our fan poll, beating out Scott McTominay (12 percent), Bruno Fernandes (11 percent), and Anthony Elanga (10 per cent).

Despite McTominay and co.’s valiant efforts, De Gea made five appearances in the first month of 2022 and kept two clean sheets, which was enough to earn him the nod.

David was outstanding in almost all of our games, but probably most notably in our 3-1 away triumph at Brentford.

De Gea provided the foundation for the win with seven sturdy saves, many of which came during Ralf Rangnick’s Reds’ shaky first half. United finally won the game handily thanks to a spectacular attacking effort in the second half, but De Gea laid the foundation for the win with seven stout saves.

De Gea was unfortunate to lose in our 1-0 loss to Wolves at the start of the month, but he was crucial in our close victories over Aston Villa (Emirates FA Cup) and West Ham.

In our four league games in January, he made 22 saves, and no other Premier League goalkeeper has made more saves in the current season.

David now has three Player of the Month titles for the season, one more than Cristiano Ronaldo, who won the award in September and October.

Since our records began in 2016, De Gea is also the only Red to win Player of the Month three times in a row.

Bruno did, however, win the prize in February, March, and June of 2020 — a run that was broken owing to the Covid-imposed pause in the 2019/20 season.
