The duo had a great month for United, scoring four goals and getting two assists between them while playing out wide. Sancho scored against Middlesbrough and Southampton and had two assists in Leeds’ 4-2 win, while Elanga scored against Leeds and at the Wanda Metropolitano against Atletico Madrid.

Under Ralf Rangnick’s tutelage, both players have improved dramatically in recent weeks. After a sluggish start at Old Trafford, Sancho showed signs of improvement throughout February and has taken over the left side in recent weeks.

The pair are up for the in-house Player of the Month award, along with centre-back Raphael Varane, who helped United keep two clean sheets last month. And De Gea, who has won the award three times in the last three months, is thrilled to see Elanga and Sancho as the front-runners for the fan-voted prize.

De Gea told United’s official website, “I’m thrilled for both [of them].” “They’re still in their early twenties.

“I believe they are doing well and contributing significantly to the club, but they are still young people and athletes, and we must be careful to allow them space. They are still in their infancy.

“I’m not sure who will come out on top. They both deserve it, therefore the fans will have to decide.”
