Having last featured for the Red Devils on December 9, Martial has been advised by manager Erik ten Hag that he won’t be considered for selection until he attains a satisfactory level of fitness.

Ten Hag emphasizes the importance of individual training for players lacking match fitness, and Martial, currently deemed unfit for group training due to the required intensity, is engaging in personalized workouts.

At Manchester United, individual training is a customary practice for players returning from injury or illness, as seen with Lisandro Martinez and Casemiro in recent instances.

While Martial’s return to fitness is awaited, the extended duration has raised concerns. Ten Hag is eager to have the forward, earning £250,000 per week, back in contention swiftly, recognizing the team’s limited attacking depth.

This situation is not disciplinary, and Martial, aged 28, is not grappling with an injury. His current challenge lies in regaining adequate fitness post a recent illness.

With his contract expiring at the end of the season, Martial is anticipated to depart as a free agent, having declined an opportunity to join another club this month.

In the ongoing season, he has started in seven out of 19 appearances, contributing two goals and an assist. Martial aims to showcase his abilities to potential suitors in the coming months.

Manchester United’s next fixture is against Newport in the FA Cup’s fourth round next Sunday, and whether Martial will be fit for inclusion in the matchday squad remains to be seen.
