Clegg believes Ronaldo possesses the traits of a good manager, citing his knowledge of the cultures of the teams for which he has played, as well as his experience and ideas.

And the former Manchester United player believes that if Ronaldo is interested in the role of player-manager, he would be a good match at Old Trafford.

“My own view of Cristiano is that he would become a very excellent manager, and he needs to manage as a player as well, be a player-manager,” Clegg told the Manchester Evening News.

“I know he’s got the concepts and a grasp of club culture; he’s got more experience than a lot of players.”

“He has a lot going for him because of his top-level experience.”

“If he became a player-manager, I think he’d be fantastic for United; he’d be my first pick.”

“It’s coming to the point where, because of the pattern he’s established of what is expected of players, primarily himself, but he’s imposed those expectations on others as well, he knows who is truly fit and dedicated, and I believe he’s got vision beyond most people.”

Ronaldo returned to Manchester United for a second stint last summer after leaving Italian powerhouse Juventus.
