United, looking for their third consecutive league victory, generated a slew of chances in the first 45 minutes but were unable to put one past Hornets goalkeeper Ben Foster.

Bruno Fernandes, Alex Telles, and Cristiano Ronaldo all came close to scoring but were unable to convert their chances.

With only 12 minutes on the clock, United should have taken advantage of their early domination.

Foster saved Fernandes’ effort after Anthony Elanga slipped him in behind the Watford defence. Foster spread himself well to ensure his clean sheet remained preserved.

Nonetheless, Fernandes might have squared the ball to Ronaldo, who would have only had to touch the ball into an empty net.

If his teammate had picked him out within the 18-yard box, the former Juventus star would have found it tougher to miss than score.

Instead, Fernandes chose to go for goal, but Foster saved his effort.

Ronaldo couldn’t believe Fernandes had decided to disregard the pass, throwing his hands in the air, then over his face, and then down on his knees in disbelief.

Fernandes missed a fantastic opportunity, and Ronaldo was visibly enraged that his teammate chose to go for goal himself.

A few United supporters, like Ronaldo, were underwhelmed.

As you can see from the remarks above, United supporters were furious that Fernandes opted to overlook Ronaldo as he attempted to add to his season’s goal count.
