Manchester United must avoid Paul Pogba mistake with Alejandro Garnacho

Manchester United has a number of promising young players going through its system, but no one has the supporters more enthralled right now than Alejandro Garnacho, a young Argentinian winger. This season, the 17-year-old made his first-team debut against Chelsea, coming on as a substitute late in the second half.

Many United fans believe Garnacho’s star will continue to grow under Erik ten Hag, but Italian clubs have began to circle and inquire about the winger’s availability in recent weeks. According to rumors from Europe, Juventus is among them, and many supporters will be reminded of the Paul Pogba issue when the midfielder originally departed the club in 2012.

Fortunately, Garnacho’s contract with United runs until 2025, but the Manchester Evening News knows that the club is working on a fresh contract for the winger to ensure that he does not leave Old Trafford. However, work has to be done in order for United to get the most out of him.

Pogba’s departure from Manchester United in 2012 was largely due to a lack of playing time. Paul Scholes announced his retirement just as he was about to break into the first team, and he ate up the young midfielder’s minutes in the first team.

Pogba felt this as a hindrance to his growth, and when he was unable to secure first-team play, he moved to Turin. To avoid history repeating itself, United must ensure that Garnacho sees a clear path to the first team.

In fact, this should be the case for any exceptional youngster who wants to be a long-term member of the first squad – other young stars rising right now include Alvaro Fernandez and Hannibal Mejbri.

Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Anthony Elanga, Anthony Martial, Facundo Pellistri, and Amad are all capable of playing on the wing for United. Some of them will leave the club, most likely on loan, but there are still a lot of roadblocks in Garnacho’s way.

For the upcoming season, a Championship loan could be preferable, giving Garnacho first-team minutes and allowing him to showcase his skill without having to compete with a plethora of other wingers. Ten Hag, on the other hand, may have a different strategy in mind for him, which will most certainly be disclosed in the following months.

Fortunately, at the age of 17, the Argentinian still has time on his side; all he needs now is United’s support.
