Cavani was signed from PSG in 2020 and had an immediate impact in England, scoring 17 goals in his debut season. Since then, the Uruguayan has struggled in front of goal, with only two goals in 20 games this season.

Despite the club’s lack of forwarding cover, Ralf Rangnick has announced that Cavani will leave this summer.

“With the exception of Edi Cavani, who will still be playing for this club next season,” Rangnick told MUTV, via the official Manchester United website.

Rangnick revealed that the remainder of the starting eleven will return next season, but the veteran striker will leave Old Trafford.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford both missed their most recent game due to injury, and Cavani’s departure emphasizes the importance of bringing in a striker this summer. Ronaldo is nearing the end of his career, thus he’s bound to sustain more and more injuries.

Although there is no need to entirely replace Ronaldo, Erik ten Hag must recognize that he will struggle to play every single game, therefore bringing in a younger striker who can gradually take over for the Portuguese icon will be vital this summer.
