Moyes was appointed manager of Manchester United ahead of the 2013/14 season, succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Scotsman signed a six-year contract before being fired in April 2014. When he left, the Red Devils were seventh in the table.

Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho have both been in charge of Manchester United in recent years.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was fired early this season, and his permanent replacement will be named this summer.

Ten Hag and Pochettino have both been extensively linked with moves to the Premier League giants.

Moyes has warned United’s next manager that “finding the same rhythm they found under Ferguson” will be difficult:

“I keep hearing that Manchester United needs a great coach to make a difference.” Man United has had Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal, two of the best coaches in the world – both excellent and winners,” Moyes told The Athletic.

“One is an incredible coach, while the other is a fantastic winner.” Man United has had a number of successful managers. I wouldn’t put myself in that category, but they’ve had some excellent managers.

“The issue for them now is to actually recapture the same rhythm they found under Sir Alex, which, looking back, was tremendous for their football club.”

“You look at a number of football dynasties – Brian Clough (at Nottingham Forest), Sir Bobby Robson at Ipswich, even Don Revie” (at Leeds United).

“Howard Wilkinson told me, ‘If you’d spoken to me earlier, David, I would have informed you that anyone who goes to take these jobs finds it very difficult to make it work.’

“It wasn’t that I didn’t know it, but (…) because of how Sir Alex approached me to take the job (…), it made it more personal, it made me feel like, yes, there’s a model here that they believed I could continue, that I would be the perfect person.” And that wasn’t meant to be.”
