The damning evaluation came in the wake of United’s premature exit from the Champions League, marked by a lackluster 1-0 defeat against Bayern Munich.

Keane, known for his no-nonsense approach, expressed his belief that a major overhaul is needed to navigate the current challenges facing the club.

Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast alongside Ian Wright, Jamie Carragher, and former teammate Gary Neville, Keane discussed his preferences on players to retain and those to let go.

In his surprising selection, Keane opted to keep only seven players from the existing squad of 22.

The chosen few include defender Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro, team captain Bruno Fernandez, young talents Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho, and summer signings Rasmus Hojlund and Mason Mount.

Notably, Keane expressed his desire to retain Erik ten Hag as the manager, indicating that he believes the current struggles extend beyond the coaching staff.

Despite increasing pressure on Ten Hag’s position, Keane seemingly absolves the Dutchman of sole responsibility for the team’s decade-long struggles.
