Chelsea ready to allow unsettled star to seal loan transfer back to former club

After failing to make an impression for Chelsea this season, Romelu Lukaku could return to Inter Milan on a long-term loan this summer.

According to Sky Sports, Lukaku joined Chelsea last summer for a club-record amount of £97.5 million, but the deal did not work out, and the Belgian striker has since lost his place upfront to Kai Havertz.

Everything seemed to go wrong for the 28-year-old after his contentious interview in December, in which he declared that he would “100%” still be at Inter Milan if the club granted him his demand for a new contract in the summer, according to Sky Sports.

The Belgian international has only scored 12 goals in 36 games for Chelsea this season, which is far below expectations given the money he received from Inter.

But, according to Todo Fichajes, the 28-year-old might return to Italy, with Inter Milan hoping to re-sign their former striker and the Blues willing to let him leave due to his ‘head’ still being ‘in Serie A.’

Because the Italian club cannot afford to pay the £97.5 million that the English club spent for the footballer last summer, a long-term loan for two seasons with an obligatory purchase option will be demanded.

Several Inter players have spoken with the Belgian attacker, who has expressed his wish to return to the Nerazzurri, where Inzaghi would welcome him with open arms.

This may be a fantastic move for Lukaku, who has deep affection for the club and will require more playing time with the World Cup in November.

Despite this, the Belgian is more than capable of turning things around at Chelsea, and it would not be surprising if the 28-year-old began to rediscover his form.
