Both players have been back in training this week, marking a significant boost for United as they aim for consecutive home wins in the Premier League.

While their participation in the upcoming match is not guaranteed, their return to training is a positive step towards a highly anticipated comeback.

Speaking about the returning players in the pre-match buildup against Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham, Ten Hag stated, “We have had a lot of injuries, so this week in training, the last couple of days, Licha Martinez training, Casemiro training, Luke Shaw training, so there are players returning. They are coming in for selection for Sunday.”

The timing of their return is crucial, especially with Chelsea overtaking United and securing the eighth position.

However, Ten Hag has higher aspirations and aims to narrow the gap to Tottenham to just five points.

Casemiro and Martinez played pivotal roles in the team’s third-place finish last year but have featured in only 13 league games combined this season.

Martinez, recovering from a foot injury since mid-September, is set to bolster the defense, with Jonny Evans deputizing in his absence.

Casemiro faced a hamstring problem, keeping him out since the Carabao Cup defeat to Newcastle.

Ten Hag hinted at a cautious approach to their reintegration, stating, “They are returning, a step ahead. When I talk about Licha Martinez returning, Casemiro returning, for instance. But they were a long time away.”

Additionally, three other players are set to make a comeback. “Antony will return. Eriksen was ill in the week, he will return.

Amad will return. We have more choice in this moment in the squad to put out a starting XI and create a bench that is stronger.”

He added, “Mason Mount will return but take a little longer, Tyrell Malacia will return as well, Victor Lindelof is also on his way back but it will take some weeks and takes time to get back into match fitness.” Anthony Martial is unavailable due to illness.

While Tottenham faces their own injury challenges, with James Maddison and Ben Davies sidelined, United appears to be strengthening its squad ahead of a crucial match.
