Not a Penalty – ‘There’s no point’ – Sean Dyche gives blunt VAR verdict after Everton’s loss to Man Utd

In the aftermath of Manchester United’s 3-0 victory over Everton, manager Sean Dyche expressed bewilderment at the decision to award a penalty to the Red Devils.

The Toffees, playing their first game following a 10-point deduction for financial rule breaches, faced a defeat with Alejandro Garnacho’s spectacular bicycle kick opening the scoring within three minutes.

Despite Everton having notable chances, including opportunities for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Dwight McNeil, and Abdoulaye Doucoure, they failed to equalize before halftime.

The pivotal moment occurred early in the second half when Anthony Martial was challenged by Ashley Young in the box. Referee John Brooks initially booked Martial for diving, but VAR intervened.

After a pitch-side monitor review, the decision was overturned, and Marcus Rashford converted the penalty. Martial later added a third goal for United, leaving Everton in the relegation zone.

Reflecting on the penalty decision, Dyche told Sky Sports: “It’s bizarre. There’s no point. I feel for fans. We all know what’s going to happen.

The VAR thing this year, it’s been all over the place. It’s the simplest thing but it seems to be mayhem all the time.

“You’re 2-0 down all of a sudden from a nothing moment, one you think has gone for you. It’s not just about that but it doesn’t help.

“This season we’ve created a lot of chances and not scored goals. Our mentality will serve us well this season.

Ten points taken away from anyone will change their season. Until the appeals process goes through we have to play away the noise.”
