Bruno Fernandes of Manchester United has been linked with Real Madrid following his outstanding performances for Portugal at the World Cup.

Erik ten Hag is a huge fan of Bruno Fernandes, therefore it’s difficult to see him sanctioning any probable exit amid Real Madrid links.

Fernandes is presently representing Portugal at the World Cup, and while Cristiano Ronaldo may continue to dominate headlines on and off the field following his departure from United, the guy who remains at Old Trafford has been the star of the show. Portugal has already qualified for the knockout stages after defeating Ghana and Uruguay in their first two games.

Despite Ronaldo’s best efforts to claim one of the goals, Fernandes has been the standout player in both encounters, setting up two goals with sharp passes in the first meeting before netting a brace in the second. It was a true return to form for the No.8.

Despite slowly improving under Erik ten Hag this season, Fernandes has been unable to recapture the prolific goal-scoring form he showed when he initially arrived in Manchester in January 2020. Ten Hag has only scored three goals for United this season, but despite his lack of creativity in front of goal, he has defended his performances.

“Yeah, but I think Bruno is doing really well this season, and I can see him producing more goals and assists,” the Dutchman stated earlier this season.

“But I think he’s often in the line of goal and he’s playing a massive role in a lot of football moments for us: in building up attacks, creativity, movement, but also in transitions, on both sides, in defensive transitions, he’s magnificent and doing a really good job, so I’m really happy with his performances.”

Ten Hag must be enjoying Fernandes’ return in that department, given that he complimented him so highly when he wasn’t scoring, and it would be a huge surprise if he changed his stance and even considered letting him go.

The playmaker’s excellent performances have not gone unnoticed, and Real Madrid is widely tipped to sign him next year. According to the Record, Los Blancos are thinking about rekindling their interest in Fernandes, but they won’t have much luck if they do.

Ten Hag’s affection for the player has resulted in his wearing the captain’s armband on multiple occasions this season, and the fact that Fernandes signed a new contract extension until 2026 in April means he won’t be leaving anytime soon.
