France defender Raphael Varane stated that Cristiano Ronaldo’s comments in a television interview that he did not respect manager Erik ten Hag and felt betrayed by the Premier League club clearly affected his Manchester United teammates.

Ronaldo stated in an explosive interview with TalkTV that he was being forced out of the club he joined in August 2021 for his second term after winning eight major trophies with them from 2003 to 2009.

United indicated they will respond to the Portuguese forward’s comments after gathering all of the facts, but Varane said the issue had an impact on the players.

According to Pedro Sepulveda, a Portuguese journalist, the mood in the Portugal camp is positive, and there are no problems between Manchester United teammates Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes.
“Obviously, it affects us,” Varane, who was named to France’s World Cup squad in Qatar, told French radio station Europe1. “We pay attention to what is going on and what is being said.

“We attempt to calm the situation in our own way and avoid being too involved in it. What is going on in the media with the top clubs is getting traction.

“When there’s a star like Ronaldo, it’s even more so, so we try to take it with distance,” he says. “That is to say, we don’t strive to fix the situation alone; we are part of a collective.”

Ten Hag said last month that Ronaldo refused to come on as a replacement against Tottenham as the forward strolled down the tunnel with a few minutes left in the game after being left on the bench.

The 37-year-old was then left out of the team for the following Saturday’s match against Chelsea.

Varane, who has also played alongside Ronaldo at Real Madrid in Spain, stated that the team is ready to accept whatever United decides.

“What I want is the best for my club, so whatever choice is made, as players, we’ll accept it and give our all,” Varane concluded.

On Tuesday, Portugal player Joao Mario said that Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes’ awkward handshake was the product of a joke among club and country teammates.

While Cristiano Ronaldo’s options for his next move are limited, Manchester United is actively looking for a new elite attacker, according to Melissa Reddy.

Sky Sports News senior correspondent Reddy claimed on a special episode of the Essential Football podcast that a lack of interest from Napoli, Atletico Madrid, and Chelsea, who had all courted Ronaldo in the summer, meaning the hated striker’s options for his next move were restricted.

“Chelsea wanted him, Thomas Tuchel fought him off, and Graham Potter doesn’t want to deal with the Ronaldo sideshow like United,” she explained.
