Dean Jones, a respected transfer insider, has now revealed that the Red Devils are considering a potential 57-year-old replacement whom they “admire.”

Ten Hag’s team has struggled to replicate their 2022/23 form in the new campaign, leading to growing concerns among fans and pundits alike.

Currently, Manchester United finds itself in a challenging situation, having lost six of their first 10 games across all competitions.

They currently sit in 10th place in the Premier League and are at the bottom of their Champions League group, having failed to secure a win in their opening two matches against Bayern Munich and Galatasaray.

Despite the pressure on Ten Hag due to the team’s poor start, reports suggest that his position as manager is not under immediate threat. The club’s hierarchy maintains full confidence in him to turn the season around.

Dean Jones mentioned that many previous candidates for the Manchester United managerial position are now managing other clubs.

However, one intriguing name that has surfaced is Julen Lopetegui, the former manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers, whom the club reportedly “admires.” Jones emphasized that Ten Hag is more likely to receive a contract extension than to be dismissed from his role.

Lopetegui, who had previously ruled himself out of contention for the Manchester United job while he was in charge of Sevilla, might now reconsider his stance given the current circumstances at the club.

Previously, Lopetegui guided the Wolves away from relegation during his tenure, achieving a rate of 1.85 points per match over 170 games.

While his credentials are solid, questions remain about his ability to rescue Manchester United from their current predicament.

The spotlight is also on Andre Onana, the Cameroonian goalkeeper who was brought to the club to bolster the defense and contribute to Ten Hag’s style of play. However, his recent costly mistakes have raised concerns about his suitability for the team.

Onana, who earns a weekly salary of £120,000 at the club, recently returned to international action and helped secure his nation’s place in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
