Manchester United completed their preparations for Thursday night’s Europa League match against Omonia Nicosia in an open training session at Carrington on Wednesday morning.

Following Sunday’s 6-3 loss to City in the Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium, the Reds will be desperate to bounce back in the best way possible when they face the Cypriot minnows. Omonia are at the bottom of Group E after losing their first two Europa League games this season.

United, on the other hand, is second in the group after winning one and losing one of their first two games. Prior to the current international break, they picked up their first points, defeating Sheriff Tiraspol 2-0 in Moldova, thanks to goals from Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Given the number of games United has to play this month, manager Erik ten Hag is expected to make a few changes on Thursday evening, with a trip to Goodison Park to face Everton just 72 hours later. As a result, it was no surprise to see a slew of teenagers featured in Wednesday’s training session.

Since his arrival at the club in May, Ten Hag has asked numerous players of United’s academy to practice with the first-team squad, both to boost their individual development and to get a better look at their skills. Toby Collyer, Isak Hansen-Aaroen, Maximilian Oyedele, and Omari Forson were among those who took part in his most recent session.

Collyer, Toby

Collyer joined United from Premier League rivals Brighton & Hove Albion in March of this year. He signed a three-and-a-half-year contract and was highly regarded by his colleagues on the South Coast.

Since joining United, he has mostly played for the Under-18s, but he has appeared on the bench in each of United’s last three Premier League 2 games. Collyer, a defensive midfielder, has also represented England at Under-16 level and played for Brighton’s Under-23s just a week after turning 17 in January 2021.

Oyedele, Maximilian

Oyedele, like Collyer, is a defensive midfielder hoping to make an impression at Old Trafford. The 17-year-old, who represents Poland at the Under-19 level, is working his way up the ranks at United and has become a regular for the Under-18s this season.

Because of his versatility, the Salford native is also capable of playing defense. He has played 35 times for United’s Under-18s and three times for the Under-21s. He also came off the bench in the FA Youth Cup final in May.

Hansen-Aaroen, Isak

Hansen-Aaroen joined United from Tromso a little more than two years ago and has progressed through the club’s youth systems. The midfielder, who was identified by United as a 14-year-old, has already made more than 50 appearances for the club at the juvenile level.

Hansen-Aaron, a dynamic midfielder capable of playing through the middle or out wide, with two goals and an assist for United’s Under-21s this season in Premier League 2. Although he has yet to make his senior debut for the Reds, he has appeared in seven first-team games for Tromso.

Forson, Omari

As a schoolboy, Forson came into United’s Under-18s squad and has gone from strength to strength ever since, demonstrating plenty of promise and ability. The 18-year-old attacking-midfielder has been a fixture for the Reds’ Under-18s for the last two seasons and has made a promising start to life with the Under-21s this season.

The former England Under-16 international has three goals and one assist in six Premier League 2 matches, indicating a highly strong start to the season. In August, he scored the game-winning goal in United’s Under-21s’ 2-1 triumph over Carlisle United in the Papa John’s Trophy.
